BUSINESS TRAVEL: ON THE GROUND — Fort Lauderdale; Booming Economy With a Resort Feel

Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is home to a growing number of small businesses and technology start-ups and is a popular center for business conferences. Shipping and tourism are flourishing, and the real estate market, driven in part by foreign investment in high-end coastal property, is booming.

Yet for all the economic activity, the city retains its old seaside resort feel. Downtown, Las Olas Boulevard stirs early in the morning when sprinklers snap on to mist the flowers and shrubs.
